SEO Best Practices

Now Im not the best at SEO practices, you could even call me a noob at it, lets face it we cant be as good as this guy but hey, he was kind enough to write an entire book about it. I recommend it, its a good one.

Back on track and enough brown nosing, there are several simple things you can do while coding to make for some good SEO practices, because lets face it, if you code right the first time you can save yourself alot of headache later on down the road.

Keep the code valid

This one is simple, keep in mind your title and alt properties. These two simple properties can make the difference in content being findable or not, but remember adding them is one thing making them relevant is a totally different. Heres what I mean:

Our family vacation

Take this image for example , the alt on this image is “Our Family Vacation” its a little vague its also going to be lost in the slew of other image out there under family vacation. So a better tag for this would be “Our Family Vacation at Palm Beach Florida” now its going to show up with other relevant content.

Content

Speaking of relevant content thats another good place to take a quick peek. If your going to make a webpage, you should really think about a single topic, or even a category, like SEO for instance. Having a site with a single theme will help drive traffic to your site and keep people there longer. If the content is good people will keep coming back to it, and will refer others to it because they will start to gain a level of trust with your content.

Theres alot to think about when it comes to really digging in to the SEO side of a webpage, I mean really everything from internal search boxes to 404 pages and microformats. Alot of these topics are mentioned in the blog on this page, but heres a quick list of things to keep in mind, oh and you can also check out the resources page for some helpful links.
