Email Marketing
Seeing how Email Marketing is the cheapest and most effective way to reach people these days (thanks to smart phones and out addiction to being connected 24/7) Email marketing is something that even the smallest of Ma and Pa shops can get into , but there are several things that can easily get your design that you spent all week working on tossed into the spam filter, either by the user of by the robot, there are a few thing you need to know and do.
Sale!! ITS HUUUUUGE, YOU CANT MISS THIS!!!!
Yes I can that will be tossed in the spam filter in a second by our faithful filter. Why? All capitol letters, a few dozen exclamation marks, the word sale alone will toss it if the filter is going on the strong setting. So what can you do? Maybe reword it? This month My Shop is looking out for you. This is nice, calm, and it looks like a real sentence, this can get on by, but if your trying to sneak by then let me tell you something else.
You can get your butt sued off.
So make sure when you sign people up for a email campaign you need to the following:
- A privacy policy
- A way to easily unsubscribe
- A reminder that they are getting this email because they signed up at MyShop.com
Don’t forget to be totally legit
List your Mailing Address of your company and your phone number.
By doing this you can make sure people will see your email, now this is a different story all together. When you build a email campaign make sure you use standards, alt tags for when images are turned off, clear text for quick reading, and proper information hierarchy.
Wanna see an example?
This is an example of a postcard format email. Postcards are handy, they are mainly used to get a single point across like a sale or event. The hardest trick to these is making the information come across to the user quickly. So think about creative headers and images, but remember to avoid things like all caps and tons of exclamations.
A news letter format is a totally different story, a news letter email is a great way to keep subscribors up to date on monthly or weekly changing news. You can put adds in them, talk about iimportant news items but best of all you can point users to your site and get them to surf around for awhile, maybe even buy a thing or two. Designing these can be easy, the example above is a simple two column format, one side is news, the other side is a article independent of the main content and all wrapped up in a nice design. Just take it slow and think out your content, you’ll get it.
