Hey buddy..you want some SEO?

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Its dark, you go into the “bad side of town” looking for a little SEO. Sure there’s a way to get all this traffic man…any thing you need and it aint gonna cost you anything for a little blackhat Seo…

WHOOOOO there kiddo, didn’t your mama ever tell you just say no to blackhat seo?
She didn’t? Well didn’t you see the commercials? no?….well then take a seat Officer Beachboard will teach you kids to just say no to Backhat SEO.

So what is Blackhat SEO? Thats a easy question, Blackhat SEO is a term used to describe shady SEO tactics that will at first drive some traffic to you but the second Google, Yahoo, and other search engines find you the black list you. Basically what your doing is abusing the way google reads sites and trying to make it think that your content is relevant to a bunch of thing that have nothing to actually do with your site. Remember back in the 90’s how you couldn’t look up anything without finding an adult website? Well if you look at the old meta data you’ll find pages of keywords that are there to try and trick the search engines. It used to work, but now its so shady its a great way to get kicked out of this industry by your peers and blacklisted by google.

Progressive Enhancement

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

So whats wrong with being enhanced? Not a whole lot, its nice to be enhanced by being enhanced you can make really neat stuff and applications that can do really neat things.

But there is one little problem

Google and other search engines dont render things like flash and Javascript so they cant see the content they hold. So what do you do? Well by using Javascript you can make things Progressively Enhance. What Im talking about, without going to alot of detail, you can use Javascript to take a normally written page and apon the user visiting the site you can call Javascript to change the content into your flash and other programs. Kinda neat hu? By doing this you can have all your neat content and you can have your findability too.

Yahoo Google MSN…the worst art critiques ever.

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Lets face it they stink at art critiques because they happen to be blind…and def…but smart to boot. So if you happen to have a image heavy page or even any images at all you really need to help these guys out. This not only is a great practice when working on SEO but its a practice that should be done no matter what.

What Im talking about is adding some simple elements to your page elements like height, width, alt, title, very simple but it can make a whole difference when you put up your pictures and google has no clue what keywords go with them.
